There’s something we see often, but it shouldn’t be as common as it is. A parent comes in feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, and unsure of what to do next.
They’ve been trying. They’ve been asking questions. They’ve been doing everything they’ve been told. And still, something doesn’t feel right. But instead of getting answers, they’ve been told:
- “Everything looks fine”
- “Just keep going”
- “This is normal”
And they leave feeling more confused than before.
When Support Falls Short
Feeding your baby is not meant to feel this isolating. And yet, for many parents – especially during the postpartum period – it does.
This week is Black Maternal Health Week. It’s a time to recognize that not all parents are:
- listened to
- taken seriously
- given access to clear, evidence-based care
And that gap in support can have real consequences.
The Problem Isn’t Effort
When feeding challenges continue, many parents assume:
- they’re doing something wrong
- their body isn’t working the way it should
- they just need to try harder
But often, that’s not the issue. The issue is a lack of clear, updated, and individualized support.
What Real Support Should Look Like
Every parent deserves care that feels:
Attentive
You are listened to fully, not rushed through.
Evidence-based
The guidance you receive reflects current best practices, not outdated advice.
Individualized
Your experience is not treated as “one size fits all.”
Collaborative
You feel like part of the decision-making process, not dismissed or overridden.
This should be the standard, not something you have to search for.
One Simple Way to Make a Difference
If you’re wondering what this actually looks like in real life, it can be simple: Share a trusted resource with someone who might not have access to the support you’ve had. That could look like:
- forwarding this post
- sharing a resource that helped you
- recommending a provider who truly listened to you
Inside our practice, we believe every parent deserves to feel heard, supported, and informed. And the more we share what that kind of care looks like, the easier it becomes for others to find it.
A Different Way Forward
If you’ve felt dismissed, overlooked, or like you’ve had to figure this out on your own, that’s not a reflection of you. It’s a reflection of the care you were given. And it can be different.
What We Focus On in Our Practice
Inside our clinic, we focus on:
- taking the time to understand what’s actually happening
- providing clear, evidence-based guidance
- supporting both you and your baby, not just one piece of the puzzle
Because feeding support should feel like support. Not confusion.

Final Thought
You deserve to be heard. You deserve to be supported. And you deserve care that actually helps you move forward, not leaves you with more questions.
